The piece

A plaque of warm solid wood with a glass tube, for a sprig of greenery on the wall.

This solid wood wall vase brings a sprig of greenery onto the wall, where it is easy to see and out of the way of everyday clutter. Each plaque of warm, polished wood holds a slim glass tube, so you can display a cutting, a single flower or a sprig of eucalyptus right at eye level.

It comes in four shapes: round, oval, tall oval and long oval, from 12 to 23 cm high; the round, oval and tall oval plaques are just 1.8 cm deep. That flat profile keeps the plaque close to the wall, which is what makes it so easy to place in a narrow hallway, beside a window or above a kitchen counter.

A small faux plant is included with each plaque, so it looks finished as soon as it is hung. Swap it for a real cutting or a fresh flower whenever you like. It suits anyone who loves plants but is short on surface space, and anyone who enjoys watching a cutting put out roots.

A solid wood wall vase with a glass tube

The design is simple and honest: a piece of solid wood with a visible, polished grain, and a clear glass tube that holds a little water. The wood brings warmth to a plain wall; the glass lets you see the stem, and later the roots, as they grow. Together they make a small, living piece of wall decor.

Because the tube is slim, one stem is enough. A pothos cutting, a sprig of lavender or a single flower from the garden is all it takes, and the arrangement changes with the seasons without any effort.

Choosing your shape

Each shape holds one slim glass tube. Mixing several is the easiest way to build a small gallery of greenery.

Shape Size Good for
Round 12 × 12 cm Small walls, beside a mirror or a light switch
Oval 16 × 13 cm A balanced single piece in a hallway
Tall oval 18 × 10 cm Narrow spaces between a door and a window
Long oval 23 × 10 cm Taller stems and a more vertical line

Two or three shapes hung at different heights, about 10 to 15 cm apart, create a natural rhythm on the wall.

Where to hang a wooden wall vase

Beside a window

Cuttings root well in bright, indirect light, so a spot beside a window is ideal. You can watch the roots form through the glass tube. Avoid strong direct sun on the tube, which encourages algae in the water.

In the kitchen

Hang a plaque near the counter and grow herb cuttings such as mint or basil within reach. It brings a little green to a working wall where pots on the counter would only get in the way.

In a hallway

On a bare wall in a hallway, a few plaques form a small gallery of greenery. Their flat profile means nobody catches a shoulder on them when passing, even in a narrow corridor.

In a child's room

Watching roots grow is a little lesson in nature. Hang the plaque high enough to stay out of reach of very young children, and let older ones help change the water each week.

Cuttings, water and hanging

The glass tube holds a little water for one stem. Change it every week and rinse the tube to prevent algae. Ideas for the tube:

  • Pothos or tradescantia cuttings, which root easily
  • Herb cuttings such as mint
  • One fresh flower from the garden
  • A sprig of eucalyptus or lavender
  • The faux plant included, or a few dried stems

Each plaque hangs on a single screw or nail. Use a fixing suited to your wall, remove the tube before hanging so you can check the plaque is straight, and fill it once the plaque is in place, away from the wood.

Styling tips for a green note on the wall

In a row

Hang two or three plaques side by side in a hallway, mixing the round and oval shapes. Plan the layout with paper cut-outs before you drill. For more ways to bring flowers onto the wall, see our wall vases.

Next to a mirror

A single stem beside a mirror softens the frame and doubles the greenery in the reflection. If you prefer something that needs no water, our dried flowers guide suggests stems that last for months, and our vases for dried flowers continue the look on a shelf below.

Caring for wood and glass

Remove the tube to refill it so the wood stays dry, and wipe away any drips straight away. Rinse the tube with warm water when you change the water; a thin bottle brush helps reach the bottom. Dust the plaque with a dry cloth.

Keep the wood away from direct heat sources so it stays in good condition.

Questions

What are the dimensions?

There are four shapes: round 12 × 12 cm, oval 16 × 13 cm, tall oval 18 × 10 cm and long oval 23 × 10 cm, all 1.8 cm deep. Each holds one slim glass tube. Their flat profile sits close to the wall, so they suit narrow spaces such as a hallway.

Is a plant included?

Yes, a small faux plant is included with each plaque, so it looks finished as soon as it is on the wall. You can replace it with a real cutting, a fresh flower or a few dried stems whenever you like, to follow the seasons.

Can I use real cuttings?

Yes, the glass tube holds water for a cutting or a single flower. Pothos, tradescantia and herbs such as mint root easily; change the water every week and rinse the tube. Bright, indirect light helps roots grow without encouraging algae.

How do I hang it?

On a single screw or nail. Use a fixing suited to your wall, and remove the tube before hanging so you can check the plaque is straight. Fill the tube once the plaque is in place, away from the wood.

Can I hang several?

Yes, mixing the four shapes creates a small wall gallery of greenery. Hang them at different heights, about 10 to 15 cm apart, for a natural rhythm. Plan the layout with paper cut-outs on the wall before fixing them.

How do I clean it?

Dust the wood with a dry cloth and rinse the glass tube with warm water, using a thin brush if needed. Keep water off the wood by removing the tube to refill it, and wipe away any drips straight away.
